How to learn to swim step by step

 1. Lose fear and feel comfortable in the water

  • The fear of drowning is common, however, if we follow the safety measures recommended by professionals, nothing serious should happen:
  • Never swim alone or alone if you don't have the skill yet. It is best to swim under the supervision of another person or group of people who already have the ability to swim.
  • To start swimming, it would be best to do it in a pool where there is no movement or currents of water and you also control the depth.
  • Avoid swimming if there is a storm due to the electrical risk.
  • It is not advisable to start swimming in water that is too cold, as it will make it more difficult for you to move your limbs.

2. Learn to float

After reading the rules of the place where you are going to start swimming  with lifeguard course and following the safety guidelines, we will start with the first thing: learning to float . The human body can float in water, on the one hand, due to Archimedes' principle (density ratio between the submerged body and water) and, on the other hand, due to the air in our lungs that acts as a "float" in the torso part.

Now, when you're in the water, use the edge of the pool to hold on with your hands, stretch your whole body, relax and try to keep your legs straight while floating. There are people whose legs sink easily, nothing happens, you can try it as many times as you need until you manage to keep your body floating.

Once you've loosened up and are comfortable in the water ,try to turn and float on your back with your arms at right angles to form a "T" shape . Breathe normally, observe how when you inhale your lungs inflate and you float and if you exhale, you sink a little .It is very important to remain calm, nothing happens. Remember that you will be accompanied and that if you need to, you can stand up again because you will be in a shallow area and try again when you consider it necessary.

3. Learn to hold your breath underwater

Because we don't have gills or gills like fish, we can't breathe underwater unless we're wearing a snorkel or diving mask. Whether or not you have these elements, you have to learn to hold your breath and exhale underwater to be able to swim  well.

With your head above the water, take a deep breath through your nose or mouth and dive . Underwater begins to exhale slowly through the nose or mouth until there is no air and then raises the head out of the water . Repeat the process as many times as necessary.

4. Start with simple swimming styles: breaststroke

Hold on to the pool curb again, unless you have a kickboard, as you can practice directly with it. With American lifeguard vienna va your hands on the curb or board, stretch out your arms and begin to move your feet up and down, giving small kicks.
